• What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim: 다루마 Yakitori Skewers

Everyone is watching What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim, and so should you!

Haha I’m starting this post with such a statement. This drama is a romantic comedy with eye candies male and female lead – Park Seojoon and Park Minyoung. We all know how handsome Park Seojoon is, and there’s even a bed scene where he takes off his top to show his muscles (nose bleed). Park Minyoung is freaking pretty! She is pretty from all angles and when she smiles, I smile with her (facepalm). I am smitten by them and their cringey love haha. What attracts me to this drama is not just the two main leads. Every supporting role has their own story to tell with comical scenes every now and then. A light-hearted drama that is bound to lighten up your day.

This drama is coming to an end soon (sadly), and it’s time for me to start posting about their filming venues.

Episode 6 where Kim Miso is upset that Lee Youngjoon just pushed her away from a kiss and she was insulted. She took to vent it out with her two elder sisters at a yakitori restaurant over soju bomb. Her sister even diagnosed Park Seojoon with stress related sexual disorder here. I’m going to guide you on how to arrive at this restaurant.

Hop on the subway to Digital Media City Subway Station (디지털미디어시티역) and take exit 9. According to map, it would only take 10min. I’d say give yourself 20min. Walk straight after coming out from the exit.

  • A Moment I Want To Stop: About Time – The Jang Mee

I’m caught up in the new drama A Moment I Want To Stop: About Time lately. Gosh this is such a lengthy name. I’m going to call this About Time from now on.

I started watching the drama because of Lee Sang Yoon, the male lead. His acting in drama On The Way to the Airport really made my heart flutters. He didn’t fail me in this drama either. Episode 7 ends with a cliff hanger that I went on to watch episode 8 in real time, without subtitles. Yet, episode 8 also ended with a major cliff hanger! (Grasp for breath) Anyway I cannot share the scene in episode 7 without giving spoilers. Stop reading at this point if you don’t want spoilers!

    Too late.

Now that you have continued reading, I guess you must have watched this drama and caught up to speed with the broadcast. Episode 7 is male lead’s second elder brother Yoon Do San bidding goodbye to everyone in his own unique ways. Must good people die? (Sniffs) He sat in a cafe with his old friend Kim Hye Young, who married his elder brother.

This cafe, The Jang Mee, has actually been mentioned previously on my blog. This is also the place where Park Haejin kissed Kim Minjung in drama Man X Man.

  • All the Butlers – 온천양곱창

I just started watching All the Butlers variety show last night and I’m hooked. One episode is around 1.5hours and I combed through 6 episodes in 1 day. This is crazy haha!

The hosts are Lee SeungGi, Lee SangYoon, Yang SeHyung and Yook Sungjae. I really like the hosts and it was motivation for me to start watching.

I’m sure everyone knows Lee SeungGi. He just completed his army and jumped into this variety one month after. Lee SangYoon is the male lead in drama “On the Way to the Airport” which I was hooked on earlier. Yang SeHyung is the comedian whom we can count on to lift the mood. Yook Sungjae is BtoB’s vocalist and has appeared in many dramas including Goblin.

I was feeling very hungry at the episode 5 mark of this variety, and it didn’t help when the hosts and guest were entering a restaurant. It showcases so many baseball players’ autographs that I just had to find out where this place is.

Before you get excited like me, I must let you know this restaurant is in Busan.

Let’s look at the stills of the episode.

Let’s look at the restaurant and menu.

  • Temperature of Love – Restaurant Exterior

Temperature of Love was good when it started but similar to all dramas, it began to drag with no story development at some point. A test to my patience. But I promised to come back with the restaurant exterior filming site, so here I am.

Episode 4 when Jungsun received very expensive truffle as gift and chased after Jungwoo to return him. I love the chemistry between Jungsun and Jungwoo here. Jungwoo decided to invest in Jungsun here.

How to get to Jack B Nimble

    Walk straight.

    Turn left at this junction.

Walk Straight and you can already see the black colour building.

  • Temperature of Love – Restaurant Interior

Korean dramas has been on a down side recently. Nothing really caught my eyes as good as Goblin. I settled for some to pass my time, but they barely got me excited.

Temperature of Love recently is a refreshing start, alongside with While You Were Sleeping. The latter has just started, so I’m keeping a watch out still. The first few episodes are good, I must say. The former has 8 episodes by the time I posted this, and I’m looking forward to the next episode!

Now, let’s get on the the filming site in this drama – Temperature of Love.

The restaurant in the drama that Jungsun is working at is actually filmed at two places. One for interior, one for exterior. I’m covering the interior in this post – the restaurant itself.

  • Man X Man: The Jang Mee

I am recently watching a brand new drama Man X Man for the sake of Park Haejin. He’s the one and only motivation that kept me going for this drama. Anyway, the last scene in episode 4 where Park Haejin and Kim Minjung kissed was a very pretty cafe, so I looked it up.

The cafe is called The Jang Mee, and it is located far far away in Paju (outside of Seoul). Travelling takes around an hour.

This is their afternoon tea set.

    This is Tiramisu.

The chocolate latte looks so pretty. The bottle on the side is chocolate where you stir it into the latte yourself.

  • Goblin: Sunny’s BBQ Olive Chicken Cafe [02]

Hello everyone! I was nursing my emptiness after drama Goblin ended. There really isn’t any drama I look forward to as much. OCN’s Voice drama is not bad though. Similar to Goblin on tvN, this drama Voice on OCN is also broadcasted on cable tv. You need to pay to watch in Korea. Naturally the drama gets less hype and traction, compared to drama like Descendants of the Sun that was broadcasted on KBS (free channel). I would suggest watching if you wish to void the emptiness in your heart like me.

In episode 9 of Goblin, the four main characters met for the first time as a group in Sunny’s new fried chicken store. It is also the episode where Grim Reaper held Sunny’s hand for the first time and learnt about her previous life.

  • Goblin: Sunny’s BBQ Olive Chicken Cafe [01]

Sunny is the very beautiful BBQ chicken shop owner who hired Euntak as a part-timer though the shop didn’t seem to have a lot of business. Here we are to see where Sunny’s original BBQ Olive Chicken Cafe is. This is the store that Sunny owns at the start of the drama. Later on, she moved the store to one with larger area space. I’ll be sharing the guide to the larger store in my later posts.

This shop is a branch in Gangnam district. Fortunately, the shop is fairly easy to arrive at.

  • Goblin: First Encounter

I am on a roll! Haha Do you count this as part of new year resolution, to update this space more often and hopefully it would count towards less money wasted on the cost to maintain this domain?

Again in episode 1, the scene where Kim Shin meets Euntak for the first time in the rain.

I’m sorry I went a little overboard with Kim Shin’s close up screencaps. His eyes can talk and I can stare into them forever. (Coughs)

Anyway this scene was filmed outside Duksung Girls’ High School (덕성여자고등학교).

    How to get to 덕성여자고등학교

Hop on the subway to Anguk Subway Station (안국역) and take exit 1. This should only take around 5min to arrive at the destination. Come out from the exit and walk towards the direction of the red arrow below.

This is also the filming site for Coffee Prince. Is this a coincidence? You might want to read more about the scene in Coffee Prince in case you forgot. I honestly don’t remember. This drama took place too long ago. Should I go back and re-watch this drama? Hmmm…

  • Goblin: Grim Reaper’s Tea House

    Happy New Year everyone!

I know I have been neglecting this space for a bit. I was hooked up on dramas, as usual. Unfortunately the dramas I was watching, either doesn’t motivate me to move my lazy ass to search for drama scenes, or there isn’t anything significant for me to search for. Take for example, the drama Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim. Almost the entire drama is filmed within the set. Ok, enough of my excuses.

Now, let’s move on to my recent favourite drama – Goblin: The Lonely and Great God. The name is too long. I shall call it Goblin from here onwards. If you ask me, this drama has certainly outperform Descendants of the Sun and has taken the honourable #1 position in my heart. But nobody is asking my opinion, so I shall not dwell into how awesome this drama is. Go watch it for yourself!

Since I have been hooked up on this drama, why haven’t I been searching for the filming sites? The sad truth: Majority of the filming took place outside of Seoul. That means, it is highly inaccessible via public transport and the likelihood of people visiting these sites decreases with that in consideration. With that, I shall start off with filming sites that are in Seoul – comparably more accessible via public transport.

Episode 1 when Kim Shin and Grim Reaper first met, Kim Shin passes by outside a stone wall and look beyond those walls, only visible to his eyes. His eyes met Grim Reaper who was in his tea house. Kim Shin commented that Grim Reaper’s hat is ugly and Grim Reaper was offended.

    00102 0304

The stone wall where Grim Reaper works, is Deoksugung Stone-wall Road (덕수궁 돌담길).

How to get to 덕수궁 돌담길

Hop on the subway to City Hall Subway Station (시청역) and take exit 1. You’ll only need 5min to get to the street, but much longer walk to the place where filming was carried out. Come out from the exit and walk towards the direction of the red arrow below.
    map01
Walk past a few shops and you will reach Dunkin Donuts. Turn left at Dunkin Donuts.
    map02
While you are walking straight, you will find yourself arriving at the Deoksugung Stone-wall Road. Isn’t that fast? That is really just a 5min walk.
    map03
But if you are looking for the exact location where filming took place. You’d have to walk much much further. (Don’t say I didn’t warn you) Basically walk straight all the way, until you arrive at the junction below and turn right. You are not there yet.
    map04
Continue walking straight until you come to this turn below. This is the exact same wall where Kim Shin saw Grim Reaper.

This place is actually worth visiting because you can see autumn foliage if you are visiting in the fall. Korea Tourism Board has also recommended this place to view the fiery colours of autumn. Especially if you are in the area to visit the Deoksugung Palace, I’d say you don’t give this site a miss.
