• Lucky Romance: Nolsoop Cafe

I’ve recently caught on another Korean drama called Lucky Romance (운빨로맨스), starring Hwang Jungeum and Ryoo Joonyeol. Yes, Ryoo Joonyeol who also acted in drama Reply 1988. So glad to see him having a drama of his own as a leading actor. While I was rooting on Park Bogum in Reply 1988 despite how cute Ryoo Joonyeol was, I’m so happy to be able to gush and cheer on him whole heartedly in this drama.

In the latest episode (episode 6), Joonyeol discreetly (not) followed Jungeum to a cafe and realised she was actually meeting Gary to convince him to be part of the game they are developing.

I did some research on the cafe and it turned out to be a comics (they call it cartoon, but I think it’s more like comics) and books cafe. There are reading materials for you to read in a comfortable environment. When hungry, you can order food and drinks too. A good place to chill out with your friends and when there are awkward silences, fret not. Apart from digging into food, you can dig into the comics or books in your hands.

    How to get to 놀숲

Hop on the subway to Jamsil Subway Station (잠실역) and take exit 3. According to Naver map, it takes 16min to get to this place. Come out from the exit and walk straight. Walk towards the direction of the red arrow below.
    001
002From Naver map above, there seems to be some constructions going on. If there isn’t (completed by now) you probably can cut across from in front of Lotte Hotel World to get to this Charlotte Theatre below. Walk straight past this theatre.
003Cross the road to the other side as seen below.
    004
Continue walking straight. There really isn’t any good landmarks along the way. Only some high rise apartments on your right. The view below is what you see on your left when you are walking straight.005
You will arrive at a cross junction. Cross the road to the opposite side and turn left.
    006
Walk straight and these are some of the shops you see. There’s Gong Cha bubble tea shop!

Continue walking straight and you will arrive at the building below. This cafe has actually replaced the Caffe Bene you see in the picture below. Pizza Hut is still there though.

  • Reply 1988: Ddeokbokki at 코스모스 분식

Reply 1988 is another good drama from TvN that got me hooked.  This drama stars Park Bogum, who is from the same company as Song Joongki. Somehow this 1988 series outshines the 1997 and 1994 series, I reckon.

In the final and last episode, episode 20, female lead Deoksun (acted by Hyeri from Girl’s Day) reunites with her close friends, Mik and Jahyun after 6 years. They met up at this ddeokbokki place.

  • Descendants of the Sun: Song Joongki’s Treat at 한라산

With the high viewership rating and all the love received from public, Song Joongki gave a treat to the entire drama team of Descendants of the Sun on 01 April. Due to the overwhelming amount of people crowding the place, they even changed a restaurant at the very last minute. The media still caught hold of the news and flocked to the new restaurant in no time. Look at the crowd.

  • Descendants of the Sun: 서래갈매기

Have you watched episode 13 of Descendants of the Sun? After Yoo Sijin and Seo Daeyoung returned to Seoul from Urk, they got 3 days leave which they decided to spend their time drinking. The place where they struggled to stay awake from 72 hours of drinking is situated in Seoul!

I was screen capturing the scenes of this episode and went a little overboard because I simply couldn’t resist the drunk and cute Song Joongki. (Coughs) This place is fairly easy to reach, as compared to the dal.komm coffee cafes I introduced previously.

I am back with another filming venue of drama Descendants of the Sun! I must warn you though, this place is not in Seoul either. Good news is this place can be easily accessible via subway as well, like the one mentioned in my previous post!

Episode 1 where Song Joongki and Jingoo sat down at a cafe after catching thief Kim Minsuk and sending him off to a hospital. The two of them each sat with a soft toy that Lee Kwangsoo wanted them to take, for them never to return to his shop. This is once again, another dal.komm Coffee outlet.

  • Descendants of the Sun: dal.komm Coffee

If you have not heard about the new Korea drama “Descendants of the Sun”, you are definitely missing out. Starring Song Joongki and Song Hyekyo, episode 6 of this drama has already broken the viewership record of drama “My Love From the Star” last episode. Song Joongki has captured so many female hearts that there is now a term “송중기 효과 (Song Joongki Effect)”.

I am obsessed with this drama myself and I am too embarrassed to say how many times I have watched and re-watched the episodes so far. To distract myself a little, I went to search for the filming sites that had appeared in the drama so far. dal.komm COFFEE that I have previously introduced in Running Man episode last year, is the cafe that appeared numerous times in the drama.

Episode 2 where Song Joongki surprised Song Hyekyo by appearing near her house after he was back from his mission. They had a drink in dal.komm Coffee where Song Hyekyo named their differences and decided to end their brief relationship.

  • Returning to Childhood in Seoul

Back to my Korea trip in July! 4 months has passed since my trip and boy, I am missing Korea so badly.

Everyone of us woke up to an empty and growling stomach. Butterfinger Pancakes to save the morning! When I said I haven’t tried Butterfinger Pancakes before, I received gasps from my friends who couldn’t believe me missing out on the goodness.

Please do not belittle the quantity. As much as the 5 of us wanted to stuff these delicious plates of food into our stomach, we simply couldn’t anymore. I felt like if I had continue stuffing, I’d need to loosen the button on my shorts.20150714_1159261If you haven’t tried (gasp at you) and is interested to try it out, the outlet we visited is in Gangnam.

We finally arrived at Lotte World. My first trip to this indoor amusement park! If you ask me, the rides are not as exciting as the Everland. After all, there’s T-Express at Everland, that can beat all the amusement rides in Lotte World. Of course, we still had fun!20150714_1537461The outdoor portion of the amusement park. We queued and waited for the rides, but the wait was simply too long and too humid for us waiting under the sun. We settled for less exciting rides in the end because they had shorter queues. I am back with Part 2 of the Taxi Drivers’ Restaurant Race broadcast on 30 August 2015! This post has taken longer than expected because I went overseas for a short trip and busy with work. Yeah, all the excuses. It’s plainly because I was lazy.

  • Running Man EP262: Taxi Drivers’ Restaurant Race [01]

It took me some time to come up with this post because I usually write at night when it’s all peaceful and quiet to pen my thoughts, but having to look at all these food photos are apparently too much for my mental state to fight the hunger pangs.  The same reason why I don’t follow foodie accounts on Instagram.

Episode 262 of Running Man is a race where members board a random taxi and have the driver recommend a dish. If the dish coincides with the team’s previously chosen dish, the team wins. Else, the team will have to eat whatever dish the driver recommended, before boarding the next taxi. This cycle continues until the team eats their own dish, and move off to the final restaurant where the rest of running man team is having their gathering. The last team that arrives at the venue have to pay for all the expenses of the gathering. According to Song Jihyo, there were around 200 people attending that gathering, so you can imagine how much the bill will accumulate to.

    Capture

In this post, we will follow Lee Kwangsoo, Kim Jongkook and Kim Suro on their restaurants track. Thanks to Kwangsoo’s random choice of food, sabotaging his own team, their strong team visited sufficient restaurants to make up one blog entry.

The first restaurant they arrived at for Spicy Stir-fried Pork with Rice (제육볶음). This dish is very affordable at the price of 7,000won!

The team were next brought to eat Grilled Squid (오징어 불고기) by another taxi driver. This is the place where the restaurant staff were debating if Kim Jongkook is a singer. Kim Jongkook sang a little of his own solo hit song but the ahjumma haven’t heard of it before.

    How to get to 동원기사식당

Hop on subway line 2 to Yangcheon-gu Office Subway Station (양천구청역) and take exit 1. Follow my red arrows. There are two staircases out from exit 1. You should walk in the same direction as the cars.

    1 2

At this place, turn right and board the horrible flight of stairs.

    3

When you come to the end, there is once again two flight of stairs. Take anyone and walk in the same direction as the cars on the road.

    4

    Continue walking straight.

    5

Stick to your right and keep a look out for traffic on the road. Make sure you’re walking on pedestrian road.

    6

Cross the road in the direction of my red arrow.

    7

After crossing the road, turn right.

    8

    Keep walking straight.

    9

On your left, you’ll arrive at the restaurant! According to Naver map, walking distance is estimated to be 10min.

The team continues on their food trail for Ginseng Chicken (삼계탕). Kim Suro was laughing so hard at their plight outside this restaurant that I wasn’t sure if it was true laughter, or laughter to mask his anger.

Anyway, the team had to eat by the roadside as the restaurant was too packed. Ginseng Chicken here is priced at 13,000won.

After this building, you will continue to walk straight, around the curve.

    5

Just follow where the road leads you.

    6

    Walk straight.

    7 8

You’re almost there after passing this car park.

    9

This is how the restaurant looks like from the front. Naver map estimated the walking distance to be 10min.

The restaurant where Kwangsoo finally got to eat the Ox Bone Soup (설렁탕) he wanted so badly, bad enough to sabotaged his team mates for. This is probably a good place for supper, since this place operates 24 hours. Ox Bone Soup is sold at 7,000won.

I’ll be sharing where the rest of the teams visited in my next post. Do let me know if there’s a particular restaurant you want to see, or I will probably skip some restaurants.

  • Let’s Eat 2: Strawberry Feast

TvN drama has been attaining more and more attention recently on their drama. One in particular that I got hooked on was “Let’s Eat (식샤를 합시다)”. It is about the lives of four single people hungry for food and love. From the drama title, you can probably guess that the drama focuses a lot on food. Due to the love from audience, there was season 2 “Let’s Eat 2  (식샤를 합시다 2)” filmed and the broadcast just recently ended, sadly.

On one hand, I’m glad I no longer have cravings after every broadcasted episode, and in turn gain weight from this. The food looks so delicious and tasty in the drama that I develop very strong cravings after each episode. For example, after the episode features Korean fried chicken, my friend and I met up to eat Four Fingers. I blame the drama for my weight gain. On the other hand, I can no longer look forward to Beast’s leader DooJoon’s acting every week. One less drama to anticipate, a piece of me seems missing.

Anyway, in the latest season 2 episode 8, there is a strawberry feast featured. I’m not a fan of Strawberry flavoured food, but this place looks R.E.A.L.L.Y yummy.

Yes, if you watched the above video, you see 4Minute’s leader GaYoon starring in this video too.

Don’t you feel like eating this! How can you resist this awesome feast! Now, you can eat this too! (Clears Throat) This is at cafe called Cafe DuDart. There are a number of outlets in Korea, but I’m only going to provide the guide to the venue where filming was held in “Let’s Eat 2”.

Let’s look at the menu first, so you know what to expect.

    미니 생크림 케이크
    Mini Fresh Cream Cake
    리얼커스터드 딸기
    Real Custard Strawberry

Jay Park (Ex 2PM Leader) invested in one of the outlets too. The outlet he invested in is more convenient in terms of location, on Apgujeong Rodeo street.

    Address: Gangnam-gu, 34 Apgujeong-ro 48-gil, Seoul, South Korea
    Telephone: 02-545-7417

How to get to Cafe DuDart

Take Seoul Subway Line 3 and get off at Nambu Bus Terminal Exit 2. Walk straight.

    Keep walking straight.

At this traffic light, turn right to cross the road.

After crossing the road, turn left.

Walk straight and you’ll come to Korea Exchange Bank (KEB). Turn right after this bank.

    After turning right, walk straight.

You’ll pass by Starbucks. Keep walking straight.

And you’ll arrive at Cafe DuDart.

Let’s take a closer look at the cafe interior. It looks dainty and cozy.
