Throwback to Hong Kong

Some time back, 2 years ago to be exact, I made an impromptu trip to Hong Kong. To the extent that I only bought air tickets 2 days before I travelled. There was a Super Show concert to be held in Hong Kong and my friends were travelling there, so I thought why not join in the fun. It was a trip to recharge myself before I start on my new employment.

Though I couldn’t secure a concert ticket at the original price in the end, and I gave up on the concert. The trip still went well with many meet ups planned with old friends. Lots of good food, gossips and laughter sums it up to a wonderful healing trip.

As I put up at my Hong Kong friend’s house, it was the perfect chance to taste true blue delicacies that locals eat. My friend brought me to this breakfast store near her house.
The photo simply doesn’t do the curry fishball justice.
Ice lemon tea with lots of lemon slices.
The best siew mai I have ever eaten! Fish siew mai is soft and tender compared to the pork and chicken ones I usually have.
Of course, the highlight of the trip is Disneyland! I have heard so much about this place from friends who went. They told me rides were not exciting, which I agree. They said the place can be combed in one day, which I did too. I still enjoyed this theme park nonetheless and want to make another trip there!
And to my delight, my favourite disney character welcoming me: Tinkerbell.
Is this the castle from Alice in Wonderland?
We were trying so hard to take photos with all the disney princesses and the queues were simply too long.  This reason is enough to warrant another trip to Disneyland! Collect all photos with disney princesses.
The parade commentary was carried out in Cantonese and it amused me so much.
There you go, real life Tinkerbell with wings and all ♡
What is a trip to Hong Kong without dim sum. And so we queued up for hours on our empty stomachs for good dim sum.
The lovely friends who waited so long with me in order to satisfy the cravings of a foreigner.
Finally we got our table and food came, emptied into our stomachs in no time. We were so satisfied with the meal that my friend paid using her credit card and we left the restaurant without signing the receipt. Got a shock when the bank called. Luckily the restaurant contacted the bank who in turn contacted us. Three brains and none of us were in the right state of mind. (Coughs)
Another place that couldn’t be missed – authentic Mak’s Noodle. The bowl somehow looks small when it arrived in front of me, but I assure you this portion filled me to the brim!
I wanted to buy roast duck back to Singapore on the last night of my trip. But I ran out of cash and the restaurant doesn’t take credit card for orders below two roast duck. And so, I left empty handed.
We took a boat ride back to Tsim Sha Tsui! It is so refreshing to know boat rides can be part of one’s everyday transport.
A fruitless shopping trip on one of those days. A friend whom is now happily in love and I am so glad for her.
Christmas was around the corner when I visited and christmas lights were lit up everywhere.
Ending the post with the awesome girl who put me up at her house and spent so much time bringing me around, even cooking instant noodles for me in the middle of the night. I definitely miss the night before I flew off, when we dozed off on the sofa in front of the big ass television catching Super Show concert on DVD.

Descendants of the Sun: Song Joongki’s Treat at 한라산

With the high viewership rating and all the love received from public, Song Joongki gave a treat to the entire drama team of Descendants of the Sun on 01 April. Due to the overwhelming amount of people crowding the place, they even changed a restaurant at the very last minute. The media still caught hold of the news and flocked to the new restaurant in no time. Look at the crowd.

201604012118079310_2 201618801459511898

Song Joongki came out for a while to greet the media and allowed photographs to be taken.

Thanks to the media photos, I managed to find the address of the restaurant they visited! The barbeque restaurant opens til late and food is charcoal grilled. It is situated near subway station too! All the more reason to visit this place!

How to get to 한라산

Hop on the subway to Gangnam-gu Office Station (강남구청역) and take exit 3. Come out from the exit and walk straight. Walk towards the direction of the red arrow below.

Turn right into the alley here.

Continue walking straight.

Turn left at this junction.

Descendants of the Sun: 서래갈매기

Have you watched episode 13 of Descendants of the Sun? After Yoo Sijin and Seo Daeyoung returned to Seoul from Urk, they got 3 days leave which they decided to spend their time drinking. The place where they struggled to stay awake from 72 hours of drinking is situated in Seoul!

Image01 Image02 Image03 Image04 Image05 Image06 Image07 Image08

I was screen capturing the scenes of this episode and went a little overboard because I simply couldn’t resist the drunk and cute Song Joongki. (Coughs) This place is fairly easy to reach, as compared to the dal.komm coffee cafes I introduced previously.

How to get to 서래갈매기

Hop on the subway to Hoegi Station and take exit 1. Come out from the exit and turn left. Walk towards the direction of the red arrow below.
Just walk straight a little and look to your right. The restaurant is right there!
How the restaurant looks on the exterior.
The place looks spacious.
You might be delighted to know this restaurant uses charcoal to grill your food. Cooking with charcoal brings out the real taste and aroma of food, in my opinion.
In case you have doubts that this is the restaurant, below is the signed poster of Song Joongki and Song Hyekyo.

Descendants of the Sun: dal.komm Coffee [02]

I am back with another filming venue of drama Descendants of the Sun! I must warn you though, this place is not in Seoul either. Good news is this place can be easily accessible via subway as well, like the one mentioned in my previous post!

Episode 1 where Song Joongki and Jingoo sat down at a cafe after catching thief Kim Minsuk and sending him off to a hospital. The two of them each sat with a soft toy that Lee Kwangsoo wanted them to take, for them never to return to his shop. This is once again, another dal.komm Coffee outlet.

Hop on the subway to Jeongja Station and take exit 2. Walk towards the direction of the red arrow below.
Walk straight.
Come to this big junction and you will need to get to the diagonally opposite. So cross the road first.
And cross the road again, to get to ACROTEL and turn right.
After passing T World telco company, cross the road to the opposite and turn left.
Walk straight for a while and you’re almost there.
There you are, this Prugio building is it.
How the cafe looks like on the exterior.
Another view of the cafe.
Lets look at the interior.
I personally like the interior design: guitar, speakers and everything.
There are poster and standing board to confirm your suspicion that this is the very filming venue.
While you here, you might want to order the drink Song Joongki was having: Honey Grapefruit (허니몽).

Descendants of the Sun: dal.komm Coffee

If you have not heard about the new Korea drama “Descendants of the Sun”, you are definitely missing out. Starring Song Joongki and Song Hyekyo, episode 6 of this drama has already broken the viewership record of drama “My Love From the Star” last episode. Song Joongki has captured so many female hearts that there is now a term “송중기 효과 (Song Joongki Effect)”.

I am obsessed with this drama myself and I am too embarrassed to say how many times I have watched and re-watched the episodes so far. To distract myself a little, I went to search for the filming sites that had appeared in the drama so far. dal.komm COFFEE that I have previously introduced in Running Man episode last year, is the cafe that appeared numerous times in the drama.

Episode 2 where Song Joongki surprised Song Hyekyo by appearing near her house after he was back from his mission. They had a drink in dal.komm Coffee where Song Hyekyo named their differences and decided to end their brief relationship.

The building is called Prugio and this is how it looks like now.

Let’s look at this dal.komm COFFEE starting from the exterior.

There is a sign placed outside the cafe to tell you this is the exact filming venue.

If you haven’t noticed by now, this cafe is located outside of Seoul. It is in Incheon. If you are seriously thinking of going to this place, perhaps consider eating Jjajangmyeon in Chinatown where Running Man filmed episode 249.

It has been a while, Taiwan!

I went Taipei to attend a wedding last November. Re-visiting Taiwan wasn’t on my travel plan last year, but since it’s a close friend’s wedding, I just had to tweak my plan a little. I took the chance to meet up some old friends whom I haven’t seen in years. A couple I’ve known has opened a cafe and retail store. The place wasn’t hard to find at all.

Doesn’t the sitting area looks cozy and feels like you can sit back and relax in it all day? I love natural sunlight in a cafe. While we were there the whole time, they didn’t switch on any lights at all. This is how brightly lit up the whole place was.DSCF14551 The corner where my friend sat for hours and poured his heart and sweat to make shoes. The shoes can be customised at a very affordable price!DSCF14521DSCF14541 A cafe and retail store in one. The kitchen was open concept.  DSCF14511

I was very at ease the whole time I was there. DSCF14611The lighting was too awesome that I had to take photos.

Since my last visit in November, my friends had since closed down this place to move on to a larger space. They are now newly opened in Shinlin! Do drop by for a visit if you have an afternoon to escape from the bustling city in Taiwan.

Christmas 2015

2015 Christmas is a merry one, I must say. Though a planned trip didn’t take place due to unforeseen circumstances, like a fan meet was confirmed through Korea media, but didn’t take place at all. So the money that was put aside for this trip was squandered on a staycation locally instead. We didn’t do anything at all the entire day. The gym gear that I brought and the swimming suit that I packed were both unused. We just ate and sleep, woke up to eat and go back to sleep. It must have been too hectic a schedule for my body that I ended up getting sick after the staycation. LOL~ (Holds up sarcasm sign)

Christmas came early for me when the 2016 calendar I ordered arrived in mail, along with electromagnetic sticker, 2 pairs of socks and a whole load of photos. DSCF15171Then it was gifts from colleagues and friends. Though not all I received are reflected in this photo below, but every piece of item I received touches my heart. Thank you everyone.DSCF15191Ended my Christmas with my favourite black tea latte in Singapore: Paris Baguette. Even the black tea latte transformed into little Santa Claus to warm my heart further. Merry Christmas everyone. I hope your Christmas this year is as heart warming as mine, if not even better.

Returning to Childhood in Seoul

Back to my Korea trip in July! 4 months has passed since my trip and boy, I am missing Korea so badly.

Everyone of us woke up to an empty and growling stomach. Butterfinger Pancakes to save the morning! When I said I haven’t tried Butterfinger Pancakes before, I received gasps from my friends who couldn’t believe me missing out on the goodness.

Please do not belittle the quantity. As much as the 5 of us wanted to stuff these delicious plates of food into our stomach, we simply couldn’t anymore. I felt like if I had continue stuffing, I’d need to loosen the button on my shorts.20150714_1159261If you haven’t tried (gasp at you) and is interested to try it out, the outlet we visited is in Gangnam.

We finally arrived at Lotte World. My first trip to this indoor amusement park! If you ask me, the rides are not as exciting as the Everland. After all, there’s T-Express at Everland, that can beat all the amusement rides in Lotte World. Of course, we still had fun!20150714_1537461The outdoor portion of the amusement park. We queued and waited for the rides, but the wait was simply too long and too humid for us waiting under the sun. We settled for less exciting rides in the end because they had shorter queues. Running Man EP262: Taxi Drivers’ Restaurant Race [02]

I am back with Part 2 of the Taxi Drivers’ Restaurant Race broadcast on 30 August 2015! This post has taken longer than expected because I went overseas for a short trip and busy with work. Yeah, all the excuses. It’s plainly because I was lazy.

A whole lot of pictures in this post, so less words. Yay for you! Hope you are full when reading this post though. Or you’ll end up like me, always taking a break from the post to fill my tummy with meat.

Are you ready? Let’s go!

Gary, Haha and Nam Bora were first brought to eat Kimchi Stew (김치찌개) at a restaurant near Hongdae.

In case you don’t find the dish too appetizing while watching Running Man, I found more high definition photo of the dish! Did I just hear you gulp?

This is how the restaurant looks like on the exterior.

The dish Running Man ordered is Kimchi Stew priced at 13,000won (1 portion for 2 pax).

Running Man EP262: Taxi Drivers’ Restaurant Race [01]

It took me some time to come up with this post because I usually write at night when it’s all peaceful and quiet to pen my thoughts, but having to look at all these food photos are apparently too much for my mental state to fight the hunger pangs.  The same reason why I don’t follow foodie accounts on Instagram.

Episode 262 of Running Man is a race where members board a random taxi and have the driver recommend a dish. If the dish coincides with the team’s previously chosen dish, the team wins. Else, the team will have to eat whatever dish the driver recommended, before boarding the next taxi. This cycle continues until the team eats their own dish, and move off to the final restaurant where the rest of running man team is having their gathering. The last team that arrives at the venue have to pay for all the expenses of the gathering. According to Song Jihyo, there were around 200 people attending that gathering, so you can imagine how much the bill will accumulate to.

In this post, we will follow Lee Kwangsoo, Kim Jongkook and Kim Suro on their restaurants track. Thanks to Kwangsoo’s random choice of food, sabotaging his own team, their strong team visited sufficient restaurants to make up one blog entry.

The first restaurant they arrived at for Spicy Stir-fried Pork with Rice (제육볶음). This dish is very affordable at the price of 7,000won!

On your left, you’ll arrive at the restaurant! According to Naver map, walking distance is estimated to be 10min.

The team continues on their food trail for Ginseng Chicken (삼계탕). Kim Suro was laughing so hard at their plight outside this restaurant that I wasn’t sure if it was true laughter, or laughter to mask his anger.

Anyway, the team had to eat by the roadside as the restaurant was too packed. Ginseng Chicken here is priced at 13,000won.
